"Manta"the autonomous sailboat waste collector

Hello all westsoulers!
Today we want to bring news of interest to all of you. Surely you are tired of seeing photographs of animals trapped in different types of plastics and waste that are dumped into the sea day after day, animals that grow with this garbage tied to their body, creating different malformations. We dump about 17 tons of waste every minute into the sea, and there are already more than 1,400 species affected by all this garbage. With all this, surely you have ever wondered, is there any possibility of collecting and processing all this garbage quickly and efficiently? Well, today there are no more than specific actions to solve this evil; Today we bring you one of them that, if its effectiveness is proven and funding is obtained from governments, private companies, etc., could be a promising solution.a.
The solution that we present to you is called Manta, developed by The Sea Cleaners, and consists mainly of a giant sailboat, 56 meters long, capable of collecting, processing and recovering large amounts of plastic waste, which it then uses as fuel, operating the 75% of its time autonomously and extracting between 5,000 and 10,000 tons of floating plastics each year.o.
The sailboat has a bespoke hybrid propulsion system that allows maneuvering at low speeds to optimize debris collection.
Manta has two wind turbines, solar panels, two hydro generators under the ship and a waste-to-energy unit (WECU). When collecting plastics at sea, the garbage enters a container through conveyor belts while the operators on board the sailboat classify the waste by hand.
Metal, glass and aluminum are set aside and reserved for delivery to recycling plants. As for the plastic, a waste-to-energy unit converts it into electricity and powers the ship and all its electrical equipment.
An ecological method that hardly emits CO2, so its pollution is minimal. The Sea Cleaners also claims that the vessel can be moved up to 20 hours a day, seven days a week.
¿What do you think of this initiative? Do you see the future?ro?
